The Book Thief Pages 19-29

The Book Thief pages 19-29
I had mixed emotions about this section of the book. I felt sad, I felt happy, I felt mad. I feel bad that the Book Thief, or Liesel, that she lost her brother. Death I feel very angry at, as well that he decided to take her brother. I actually feel a little happy that Liesel is going to a new home though because it will be a new experience for her, as bad as it might turn out to be.
This brings up a quote that I really liked in the story "For Liesel, it was a ride in a car. She’d never been in one before." You would expect that everyone had been in a car before, so you would expect this to be routine for her. But then when the next sentence says that she in unfamiliar to it, it completely turns your mind around.
Overall though, I am really impressed by this section, and I hope to read more about it.

  1. good job. I am wondering why you think death should not have taken her brother? I guess it was his time and he/she (death) could not do anything about it.

  2. I like that you started off by talking about your emotions, and then went into detail about all of them. I am surprised at the anger you showed towards Death- after all, it is his job to take away souls. The body was already dead, his blue eyes were already staring at the floor. Seeing nothing. It was only after Liesel had discovered his corpse that Death took him away... he stood and watched her, and then lifted Werner away. I like the quote, and your interpretation of it.
